그로테스크 시리즈_아이보리타워
<그로테스크시리즈_아이보리타워>는
멸종동물이 도살당한 현장의 참혹한 모습을 그로테스크한 이미지로 생생하게 보여준다.
해골과 심장들은 새까맣게 탄 채로 섬뜩한 빛을 내뿜으며 유골함에 담겨져 있고(큐브),
뼈와 상아는 발골된 상태로 전리품인 양 벽에 달려 싸구려 액자를 비추고 있으며(본),
몸통은 반듯하게 썰려 그 고통의 몸부림을 숨긴 채 바닥에 무심히 놓여 있다(핵).
죽음의 그림자로 가득하다. 그야말로 그로테스크하다. 이와 함께 빛나는 지성은 상아탑에 갇힌 채 썩어가고 있다.
그러나 <그로테스크시리즈_아이보리타워>는 죽음을 위로는 하지만 삶을 포기하지는 않고 있다.
이 작품에서 생명체는 자신에게 향을 꽂아(인센스의 기능) 스스로 명복을 빌고 있지만,
해골과 심장을 다양한 색감을 넣어 표현하고(큐브),
발골된 뼈와 상아를 아름답고 빛나게 조각하고(본),
살아남으려는 몸부림 같은 뒤틀림을 보여줌으로써(핵)
아직은 희망이 있음을 보여준다.
<그로테스크시리즈_아이보리타워>의 이러한 역설은
하나의 사건이나 상황에서 모순되고 상반된 감정이 동시에 일어날 수 있음을 보여준다.
이와 같이 모순된 감정들이 서로 충돌하는 상태 또는 그 충돌이 해소되지 않아 혼란이 극에 달한 상태 이러한 상태가 바로 그로테스크이다.
또한, <그로테스크시리즈_아이보리타워>는 아름다운 그로테스크를 보여준다.
아름다운 그로테스크를 통하여 그로테스크한 상태가 해소되기를 꿈꿨다. 그러나 그것은 어쩌면 불가능한 꿈일지도 모른다.
아름다운 그로테스크라는 말만큼 그로테스크한 것은 없으므로.
세상은 그로테스크 그 자체이므로.
Grotesque Series _ IVORY TOWER
Vividly depicts the terrible scene of endangered animals being slaughtered through grotesque images.
Black burnt skeletons and hearts are contained in the Urns for Ashes, emitting eerie light(CUBE),
The bones and ivory, removed from flesh, are hanging on the wall like trophies and at the same time illuminating cheap photo frames(BONE),
Body is sliced cleanly and thrown on the floor, hiding the struggle of pain(HACK).
Filled with shadows of death. Absolutely grotesque. Along with this, Shining intellect is rotting, stuck inside ‘The Ivory Tower’.
But, Grotesque Series_IVORY TOWER comforts death but has never given up on living.
In this work, living one is sticking incense on itself (the function of the incense) and praying for its own repose.
Nevertheless, By expressing the skeletons and hearts in various colors (CUBE),
By carving the bones and ivory beautifully and brilliantly (BONE),
By showing a warping like a struggle to survive(HACK),
It demonstrates that there is still hope.
Grotesque Series_IVORY TOWER's
This paradox shows that contradictory and reversed feelings can occur simultaneously in one event or situation.
The situation in which contradictory emotions conflict with each other. Or the situation in which the conflict has not been resolved and confusion has reached its peak. These situations are ‘the Grotesque’ itself.
Also, Grotesque Series_IVORY TOWER is expressing beautiful grotesque. I dreamed of solving grotesque situation through beautiful grotesque.
But it could be a mere dream that cannot be fulfilled.
Nothing is more grotesque than the word 'Beautiful Grotesque'.
Because the world itself is grotesque.
